POSITION SCOPE
Scherrer Construction is seeking a Design Associate to join our growing design-build team in Wausau, Wisconsin. This role is ideal for someone with 1–3 years of experience who enjoys a fast-paced environment, values collaboration, and is excited to work on a wide variety of project types.
As a design-build company, our team works closely from concept through construction. No two projects — or days — are exactly the same. The ideal candidate is a self-starter who is comfortable balancing design, documentation, detailing, coordination, and field involvement while working alongside architects, project managers, superintendents, and clients.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist in the development of architectural designs from concept through construction
- Prepare construction documents, detailing packages, and permit drawings in Revit
- Develop floor plans, elevations, sections, details, and presentation materials
- Coordinate with project managers, field staff, consultants, and clients throughout the project lifecycle
- Participate in field verification, site visits, and construction administration activities
- Review project information for accuracy, constructability, and coordination
- Assist with material selections, finish coordination, and interior design elements as needed
- Support multiple projects simultaneously in a collaborative team environment
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- One to three years of experience in architectural drafting, construction documentation, or related design experience
- Degree in Architecture, Interior Design, or related field preferred
- Strong understanding of construction documents and architectural detailing
- Proficiency in Revit required
- Ability to communicate effectively with both office and field teams
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Self-motivated with the ability to adapt in a fast-moving environment
- Ability to work collaboratively while also taking initiative independently
- Commercial experience preferred but not required
