Beam Signing Event Connects Red Apple Students with their New Facility
As the exciting journey of constructing the new RUSD Red Apple Elementary STEAM School continues, the team at Scherrer was honored to bring the tradition of beam signing to the school community. This age-old construction ritual gave students and staff a unique opportunity to leave their mark on the school.
Commemorating the New School
The administration of the Red Apple School shared in the excitement of using the beam signing to commemorate the new facility and honor the group of students and staff through the framework of the new school. And the excitement didn’t stop there - Red Apple administration chose to prominently showcase the painted, signed, and branded beam through an exposed area in the art room.
Students make their mark by signing the steel beam prior to installation at the new school.
Beam Signing Day
The event gave students a unique, hands-on opportunity to participate in the school construction process and become part of the district's history. By actively engaging the student body, the students could individually invest in their new space, building a sense of unity for the state-of-the-art STEAM facility they will soon enjoy.
Steven Richard, Project Executive, commented on the event, “There’s something special about adding your name to a structure that will serve as a learning environment for today and the future. Beam signing allows students to learn about the construction process while building pride in their school community.” He continues, “We are proud to partner with RUSD to create a bright future for their students.”
Beam Installation
The Scherrer Construction team raised the signed structural steel into place. This beam is integrated into the structure of the school. The art room is designed to expose and feature this piece of Red Apple’s history.
Red Apple Elementary School is scheduled for completion in January of 2026. Learn more about this project here.
